OC Kaligis, the attorney of former Democratic Party treasurer MuhammadNazaruddin, who was allegedly implicated in a bribery case involving theconstruction of the 2011 SEA Games athletes dormitory, said he refused topresent his client before the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Kaligis argued that the KPK had no longer respected his client rights as awitness and instead treated him as a suspect.
He also said the KPK would intimidate Nazaruddin as if he was guilty.
Kaligis said the KPK was no longer independent. The KPK thanked thePresident as the [alleged corruption] case of KPK deputy chiefs Bibit SamadRianto and Chandra M. Hamzah was closed, he was quoted saying on Sunday as tempointeraktif.com.
The KPK had summoned Nazaruddin twice, but he did not respond. Nazaruddincurrently resides in Singapore while reportedly undergoing medical treatment.
On the SEA Games dormitory bribery case, the KPK has named three suspects:former Youth and Sports Ministry secretary Wafid Muharram, marketing directorof PT Anak Negeri Mindo Rosalina Manullang and Muhammad El Idris, a director ofPT Duta Graha Indah.
OC Kaligis added Nazaruddin would rather talk to the press rather than the KPK.
