OLDBOY Spike Lee to direct South Korean remake Oldboy

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap) – Spike Lee has signed on to direct “Oldboy,” a remake of the South Korean film, for Mandate Pictures, the company said Monday.

Mark Protosevich, who wrote “Thor,” “I Am Legend” and “The Cell” adapted the screenplay and is co-producing.

“Oldboy” is about a man who is held captive for 15 years after being kidnapped on his daughter’s birthday. Once he’s released, he learns that the kidnapper still has terrible plans for him.

The 2003 South Korean film was directed by Chan-wook Park, and it won the Grand Prize Jury Award at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
