The Regional Representatives Council’s (DPD) committee on law making suggests that the revision to the 2007 law on elections should either strengthen the Election Supervisory Committee (Bawaslu) or abolish it owing to its lack of authority.
Head of Committee I Wayan Sudirta said that one of the ways to strengthen Bawaslu was to establish a national arbitration body to handle election disputes.
“Thus, Bawaslu can handle something and channel the data [they gathered from the matter] to [the arbitration body],” he said.
In addition, the DPD also refused to allow members of the Election Committee (KPU) to become members of political parties.
