TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Abu Tholut, a defendant in the terrorism case involving a military training area in Jalin Jantho, Aceh, submitted his defence on five of the indictments against him. Abu Tholuts attorney, Nurlan, claimed that some facts exhibited by the prosecutors were not factual.

In an earlier trial, Imron Byhaqi, who has many aliases, was sentenced to death based in Article 7 in conjunction with Article 14 and other laws on the criminal acts of terrorism punishable by death.

Nurlan read out his defense yesterday. Abu Tholuts first objection was over the information given by Ubaid. Ubaid said that the defendant asked the former Moro rebel to take part in the military training. Conversely, Nurlan said that Mustaqim, a former Moro rebel, was the one who asked the defendant to join the training. The defendant was asked to join the training, not the other way around, said Nurlan in West Jakarta yesterday.

Nurlan further disputed the accusation that Abu Tholut took part and knew about the training plan. In fact, the defendant never joined the military training. Dulmatin or Joko Pitono was the one leading the combat training, said Nurlan.

The prosecutors had accused the defendant of sending Mang Jaja, one of the supporters, to survey the training ground in Banten, West Java. The team of attorneys requested the judges to reject the charges. So, the charges were considered null and void, Nurlan added.

The prosecutor, Nurlini, upon hearing the defendants explanation, requested one week to review the defendants objection, which the leading judge, Muhammad Eka Kartika, granted.
