TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Migrant Care Executive Director Anis Hidayah asked the Indonesian migrant worker (TKI) complaint-centerestablished by the governmentto work seriously in following-up reports. Based on our experience with governmental institutions, it is really difficult to follow-up on complaints, said Hidayah.
Hidayah expects that the TKI call centeraccessible from the country and abroadwill be different from other government-established service center.
Hidayah added that the number of complaints would have piled up if the government was serious in responding the reports. Migrant Care, as an NGO on migrant workers advocacy, receives dozens of complaints every day.
The TKI call center must set a clear target and timing in responding every complaint. If there are complaints which cannot be handled they must be informed, too.
The government established the TKI Crisis Call Center yesterday after the migrant workers encountered many problems. This is done in an effort to improve the protection of migrant workers, said the Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar during the inauguration of Crisis Center and Call CentrerHalo TKI at the National Agency for Migrant Workers Placement and Protection (BNP2TKI) office in Jakarta yesterday.
The 24-hour crisis center is located at Jalan M.T. Haryono Kaveling 52, Pancoran, South Jakarta. Migrant workers wishing to file their complaints can dial 0-800-1000 for domestic calls and +62 2129244800 for overseas calls. The Call Center also receives complaints via text messages to 7266, free of charge.
BNP2TKI director Jumhur Hidayat said that incoming reports will be handled in stages, from filing the documents to verifying data, validating documents and reporting the progress of the problem.
Hidayat said that the initial response to the incoming report will be done internally by the BNP2TKI, while the resolution will be coordinated with related offices, including the provincial government institution, the TKI recruitment company, and the insurance company.
